Anyone buying an electric bike in the central Netherlands will soon find themselves at Van Dikkenberg Tweewielers in Opheusden. What began in a calf barn in 1997 has grown into one of the largest bicycle specialists in the region: with an impressive 5,000 m² showroom, a professional workshop, and a clear mission: to ensure every customer enjoys carefree cycling.

"People come here because they know we have everything in-house," says Albert van den Dikkenberg, co-owner of the family business. "Whether it's sales, maintenance, or repairs, we make sure they're back on the road quickly. And that naturally includes the battery: the heart of every electric bike."

The battery is running out, but the customer wants to continue
The Netherlands now has millions of electric bicycles. More and more people ride them daily to work, school, or shops. But after five to seven years, every e-bike faces the same problem: the battery loses capacity or fails completely.

Albert sees it every day in the workshop. “The e-bike itself is often still fine. It's just the battery that's failing. And that's often no longer available because manufacturers stop production as soon as a new model comes out. A new bike costs thousands of euros, but an original battery is also quite expensive, sometimes as much as eight to nine hundred euros. That's when customers lose interest, even though the rest of the bike is still perfectly fine.”

Van Dikkenberg was clear: we have to keep helping those customers. "We don't want to say, 'Sorry, no longer available.' We want to say, 'We have a solution.'"

“Thanks to Twindis we can continue to help customers,
even if the original battery is no longer available.”

Alternative batteries from Twindis
Albert found the solution at Twindis. "We started working together about three or four years ago. Twindis was one of the few companies that had good replacement batteries in stock for popular brands like Bosch and Shimano. This allowed us to continue helping customers who would otherwise have given up."

The partnership grew quickly. Van Dikkenberg now stocks Twindis batteries himself. "We want to be able to help customers immediately. If someone comes into the store with a broken battery, I don't want to say, 'Come back in a few days.' Thanks to Twindis, I can offer a suitable replacement battery within minutes. And that works perfectly."

Albert notices that customers trust Twindis' replacement batteries. "We have a reputation to uphold. If we offer a product, it has to be good. And it is: I often see that these alternative batteries offer just as much or even more capacity than the original, at a better price. That convinces customers: they can keep cycling without compromising on quality or range."

Thinking along with the bicycle retailer
What Albert appreciates most is how Twindis connects with retailers. "It's not an anonymous webshop where you can just click and order. They regularly call to check in or to let you know if a suitable batch of batteries or chargers is available. I really value that personal contact."

The website itself also works well. "You can immediately see what's in stock and what's out of stock. The delivery times are realistic, and the prices are fair. This is essential for a specialist retailer that wants to respond quickly. The bicycle industry revolves around trust and speed, and Twindis is a perfect fit."

Satisfied customers and fewer standing bicycles
Every week, Van Dikkenberg's team replaces several e-bike batteries, many of which come from Twindis. "We've noticed that customers are happy they don't have to invest in a new bike right away. They can just keep riding, with a new battery that fits and performs well. And for us, it's great that we can offer this service without being dependent on brand manufacturers."

According to Albert, it's a partnership with a bright future. "In the coming years, we'll be replacing even more batteries. People are cycling longer, want to be more sustainable with their belongings, and expect their e-bikes to simply work. Twindis helps us make that happen."
